Kenya - Samburu People
The Samburu People
Flamboyant semi-nomadic pastoralists, the Samburu are related to the Maasai and live in north-central Kenya.
Cattle and goats are a central part of Samburu culture and a prime measure of wealth. Traditional dress is still an important part of modern life.
The Samburu have also been called the 'butterfly people' on account of their bright clothing and beads.
As wildlife photographers, we are sometimes less comfortable photographing people. It can feel like exploitation. Hopefully these images have captured a little of their grace and quiet dignity.
These moran (warriors) demonstrate virile agility leaping high during jumping dances.
